Issue 9 - Three Pence
1 st issued: June 1873
Printing: recess by Perkins, Bacon & Co., London
Watermark: (small 6 pt. star) (sideways)
Quantity issued: 20,000
The Three Pence value was issued to pay the required rate per ½oz. for ship mail to Great Britain
by vessels other than Packet Boats. The plates were of different size than previous issues
being 10 X 12 ( 120 stamps) instead of 10 X 11 . This size paper created problems
such that it is very unusual to find a perforated stamp of this issue well-centered.
