The Queen's Head

This issue was designed and typographed by De La Rue & Co., who felt the existing
Perkins Bacon Britannia plates were too worn and unfit for further use.
This issue c.1882 and all subsequent De La Rue stamps were perforated 14.

This was the first issue to use the Crown & CA (Crown Agents) watermarked paper.

Once this issue was printed it became obvious that there was difficulty distinguishing between the
4d grey and ½d green under lamplight. The Colonial Postmaster requested one of them be changed.

The ½d green color was set by U.P.U. convention; therefore, the 4d was changed to brown in 1884.
