The Diamond Jubilee

                    In 1897 Barbados was one of six British Colonies which commemorated the Diamond Jubilee
                               of Her Majesty Queen Victoria with a special issue of postage stamps.
                         The Barbados issues adapted the design of the colony Seal already featured on the
                    current definitive for its first commemorative issue by enclosing it in a diamond shaped frame
                                     surrounded by heraldic emblems of the United Kingdom.

                         There were nine values in the set and they were placed on sale 16 November 1897.
                                All values were typographed by De La Rue & Co.and perforated 14.
                     As there was no paper watermarked (Crown)/"CA" suitable for printing stamps of this size,
                     old paper watermarked (Crown)/"CC" was used.  The stamps were printed on white paper;
                    however, some of the paper had a decidedly bluish tint. All values are found on both papers,
                                      the blued papers issued later and being much scarcer.
