The Nelson Centenary
Barbado's second commemorative stamp issue was the celebration of the Centenary of the
Battle of Trafalgar. The design for this stamp is a representation of the monument
erected in Trafalgar Square in Bridgetown in memory of Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson.
The entire set of seven stamps was first issued 01 March 1906.
All values were recess engraved by De La Rue & Co.and perforated 14.
Originally there was no paper watermarked (Crown)/"CA" suitable for printing stamps of this size,
thus old paper watermarked (Crown)/"CC" was used. The stamps were printed on white paper;
however, some of the paper is thin with a bluish tint. All values are found on both papers.
On 6 July 1907 three values were reissued on watermarked (Crown)/"CA":
the One Farthing, Two Pence and Two and One-half Pence.
